Cotton and Deleary Honoured with OCAA Women’s Basketball League Awards

(London, Ontario) – Today, the OCAA announced the Women's Basketball League awards, recognizing Alison Cotton (London, ON) as a West Division Second Team All-Star and Sidney Deleary (Chippewas of the Thames) with a spot on the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Fifth-year Cotton fearlessly led the Falcons this season, breaking numerous Fanshawe Women's Basketball records. She now holds the record for most steals recorded in a game (11), most rebounds recorded in a game (19), and the most rebounds recorded in a season (177). On top of her groundbreaking accomplishments, Cotton averaged a double-double with 14.4 points and 11.1 rebounds during the regular season and has recorded a double-double in 12 of 17 games this season. Cotton's relentless effort is reflected on the stat sheet, as she leads the league in rebounds per game. This is the third year in a row that the Falcons captain has earned OCAA All-Star honours, a credit to her endless energy and grit on both ends of the floor.

Rookie guard Deleary was a force to be reckoned with during her first season with the Falcons. She shot the lights out, recording a 43.1 field goal percentage and a league-leading 40.9 three-point percentage. On the season, she averaged 8.1 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 1.6 steals per game. Deleary's composure, court vision, and team-first style of play made her a huge asset to the Fanshawe squad this season.

After pulling off a major upset against the 2nd in the East Georgian Grizzlies last Saturday, the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Basketball team (6-11, 7th West) look to advance to the OCAA Final Four Championship as they face the Niagara Knights (13-4, 3rd West) in an OCAA quarterfinal game at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 in Welland.
