Fanshawe Women’s Basketball Finishes Fourth in the Province

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (12-8, 3rd in West) finished fourth in the province at the OCAA provincial championship hosted by Niagara College in Welland.

 

The Falcons dropped a hard-fought 67-58 contest to No. 7 nationally ranked Humber (18-1, 1st in West) in the semi-final. Fourth-year guard Jessica Jordan (Chatham, ON) recorded a career-high 25 points on 10 of 18 from the field. Teammate Alison Cotton (London, ON) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and was named the player of the game.

 

Fanshawe then fell in the bronze medal game to the No. 5 nationally ranked Algonquin Wolves (16-1, 1st in East) by a close score of 56-52. Fourth-year captain Sydney Kendellen was named the player of the game with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Jordan led the Falcons in scoring with 12 and Micaela Howard (London, ON) added an impressive 16 rebounds, setting a new Fanshawe Women's Basketball record for most rebounds in a playoff game. Fanshawe's Taya Spears (London, ON) was awarded the OCAA Fair Play award for her sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
