Fanshawe Women’s Basketball to Face No. 1 Dawson in CCAA Quarterfinal Game

(London, Ontario) – The OCAA Champion and No. 4 nationally ranked Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (21-1) will travel to Nanaimo, British Columbia for the CCAA National Championship tournament from March 18-21. The National Championship will be hosted by No. 2 Vancouver Island University. In the quarterfinal, the Falcons will face No. 1 Dawson at 6pm EST (3pm PST) on Thursday, March 19.

 

The Falcons repeated as OCAA Champions last weekend, as they won 93-80 over host No. 13 St. Clair in the provincial final. They are led by local dynamic duo Chuot Angou, who is a two-time OCAA Player of the Year and Mikhaila Wright who was named the Tournament MVP as well as the OCAA West Defensive Player of the Year. The pair averaged a combined 51 points per game in the three-day provincial championship weekend.

 

The Dawson Blues have been ranked No. 1 in the country for the past three weeks. The 2019 CCAA bronze medalists were upset in their conference (RSEQ) final by No. 6 Sainte Foy 64-57. Dawson had a RSEQ-best 15-1 record. Dawson is led by Mackenzie Ash-Smith and Taisha Exanor, who averaged 19.6 and 16.5 points per game in the regular season.
