#2 Falcons Post 79-28 Victory over the Sault Cougars

(London, Ontario) – The #2 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (13-1) recorded a 79-28 home win over Sault College (0-13) on Saturday night. The Falcons have clinched a spot in the OCAA playoffs with the Falcons Fest victory.

 

Fifth-year Fanshawe point guard Laura Vere (Stratford, ON) opened the game with six straight points. Good defense from Sydney Kendellen (London, ON) turned into points on the offensive end for the Falcons. Freshman guard Jessica Jordan (Chatham, ON) knocked down back-to-back triples to extend the home team's lead to 24-8 after the opening frame. In the second quarter, the Falcons stepped up their defence, holding the Sault to four points in the quarter to take a 39-12 lead going into the locker room.

 

London native Natalie Warren started the third frame with a nice jumper inside the paint for Fanshawe. Alison Cotton (London, ON) got herself on the scoresheet with a put-back. At the end of the third quarter the score was 58-33 in favour of the Falcons. Mary Ingribelli went 3 for 3 from the floor for 8 points in the final quarter. Maggie Jarvis (London, ON) then added to Fanshawe's lead with a great drive to the basket. Kendellen then had a beautiful pass to first-year forward Mackenzie Van Dyk (Parkhill, ON) to make the final score 79-28.

 

In the team win, the Falcons recorded 25 assists on 33 made field goals. The Birds outrebounded the Cougars 49-30 and notched 23 steals. Jordan stuffed the stats sheet with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Warren and Angou are first (51.8) and third (47.7) in the OCAA in field goal percentage respectively. 

 

The Falcons take the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre court again tomorrow at 1pm in a rematch against the Sault.
