(London, Ontario) – The #2 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (9-1) concluded the first half of league play with an 89-34 win against Conestoga (4-6). The Falcons now sit at the top of the OCAA West Division standings.
It was a milestone night for Falcons shooting guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catherine's, ON), who joined the OCAA 1000-point club. Ingribelli recorded 903 points in her four years at Niagara College and has added 102 points this season with Fanshawe, bringing her total to 1005 career OCAA points.
The home team got off to a hot start in the first quarter, with Ingribelli hitting back-to-back 3-pointers. Natalie Warren (London, ON) would then go off, scoring eight points in the quarter on 4/4 shooting from the field. Ingribelli would add a third triple at the end of the quarter to mark her 1000th point. Fanshawe shot an impressive 70% as a team in the opening frame, while holding Conestoga to 7.1% to take a 34-2 lead.
In the second quarter, Mikhaila Wright (London, ON) would get a steal and layup to stretch the Falcons' lead. Wright was solid on both ends of the floor, recording 6 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks in the game. Local guard Chuot Angou then hit a shot from beyond the arc and at the break, Fanshawe was up 55-14.
Laura Vere (Stratford, ON) opened the third frame with a triple of her own followed by a midrange jumper from Claire Dechet (Sarnia, ON). Going into the final quarter, Fanshawe held a 73-26 advantage.
Good ball movement would see numerous Falcons get on the stats sheet, as every player would score a bucket in the game. The Falcons also set a new Fanshawe Women's Basketball record for most assists in a game with 32. Fanshawe defeated Conestoga 89-34 in their final game of the semester. Warren led the Falcons with 14 points and 10 boards.
As a team, Fanshawe leads the OCAA in numerous statistical categories including field goal percentage (44.1%), assists per game (21.2), rebound margin (16.4) and least amount of points allowed per game (47.6). Individually, Warren leads the league in field goal percentage (53.8%), closely followed by Angou (52.2%) and Vere has the best assist to turnover ratio (8.6).
Over the break, Fanshawe will participate in the Seneca Sting Classic from January 4-5, 2019. Their first OCAA regular season game of the second semester will be on Sunday, January 13 when they travel to take on University of Toronto Mississauga (4-7).
