No. 1 Nationally Ranked Fanshawe Men’s Volleyball Team Remains Undefeated

(London, Ontario) – Winning their fifth consecutive match on Wednesday evening, the Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (5-0) won 3-1 in riveting sets against the St. Clair Saints (4-2).

 

Opening the match, Fanshawe's OCAA Star of the Week, Zack Admans recorded his first kill of the set to give the Birds an early advantage. Kills by Tanner Patterson (Baden, ON) and Alain Pineault (Windsor, ON) continued to increase the Falcons' lead. Up 9-5, Patterson strategically tipped the ball over the Saints and Admans smashed a hit to score back-to-back points for the Falcons. The Birds looked unstoppable on the court while showcasing great gameplay. An ace from setter Jack Voght (Ottawa, ON), a kill by Patterson, a block by Pineault, and terrific team defense secured a victory for the Falcons by a score of 25-18 in set one.

 

Jayden Crowther (London, ON) started the Falcons off in the second set by slamming the ball down on the visitor's attack line. With the set tied at 12, Voght showed off his power, pushing the ball and winning the joust against the Saints. The Falcons and Saints continued to exchange points until third-year Crowther made a huge block which sparked a 3-0 run for the Birds. The second set came down to the wire, but the Saints pulled off the win and were victorious 26-24.

 

Set three began with a kill from Pineault and a massive block by Admans. To put the Birds up 6-5, Fanshawe executed a beautiful attack. Voght placed a perfect ball for Crowther who recorded his fourth kill of the match. A block by Patterson furthered Fanshawe's lead to four. The Falcons continued to dominate and an Admans kill scored the last point of the set. The final score of set three was 25-18 in Fanshawe's favour.

 

To start the fourth set, Admans recorded a kill as he found a hole in St. Clair's defense. Pushing Fanshawe's advantage to 8-4, Crowther made another huge block. The Birds continued to block the visitors as Pineault and Crowther made additional blocks in the set. Elliot Leslie (London, ON) showcased his skills after making a great dig and then positioned himself to record a kill. With victory in sight, Voght served a beautiful ace and Pineault hammered a hit to take the match and set four by a score of 25-22.

 

On Tuesday, November 14, the Birds look to keep the good times rolling as they face the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-3) at home.
