#1 Fanshawe Completes Second Consecutive Perfect Regular Season

(London, Ontario) – The #1 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball squad completed their second consecutive 18-0 regular season on Sunday afternoon at home. The Falcons swept the Boréal Vipers (1-17) and extended their OCAA regular season winning streak to 49 matches.

 

Matthew Stokes (Dover Centre, ON) got Fanshawe on the board in the first set with a huge hit. The Falcons would continue to fly with points from local outside hitters Alec Bugler and James Jackson. Sam Otten (Delaware, ON) was brilliant from the service line, notching a pair of aces for the red and white. The Falcons won the first set by a comfortable score of 25-9.

 

Fanshawe came out strong again in the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Great setting by local rookie Reece Embree set up huge kills from Jackson and Mike Liscumb (Ilderton, ON). The Vipers were unable to contain the Falcons' well-balanced offense and Fanshawe went on to win set two 25-10.

 

The Falcons continued to be on fire offensively, hitting at a .545 kill percentage throughout the match. David Gundrum (Port Elgin, ON) completed his outstanding five year career with 646 digs, good for fourth place on the OCAA career digs list. Fanshawe defeated Boréal 25-13 in the third set and won the match 3-0. Otten recorded 12 points in the match and Bugler added 10.

 

Fanshawe will face the Fleming Knights (5-12) from the East Division in their OCAA crossover playoff match. The game is set for 3pm on Saturday, February 16 at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre. General admission tickets for playoff games are $5 per person, with free admission for kids under six and Fanshawe students with their valid Fanshawe student ID. Tickets are cash only and will be available one hour prior to game time. Season passes are valid for playoff games.
