Falcons Move On to OCAA Men’s Soccer Semi-Final

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Soccer team (9-2-1, 3rd West) defeated the St. Lawrence Surge (8-3-1, 2nd East) on Wednesday morning in an OCAA quarterfinal match. The Falcons won 6-1 in Vaughan to advance to the provincial semi-final.

The Falcons wasted no time, scoring in the 6th minute off of a beautiful left-footed cross from Juan Sebastian Gomez Galeano (London, ON) to Michael Sneddon (Mount Brydges, ON). Fanshawe's fifth-year striker made no mistake, connecting on the pass with a header that found the back of the St. Lawrence net. Sneddon scored his second of the game in the 14th minute, chipping the Surge goalkeeper to make the score 2-0. Sneddon would make it a hat trick in the second half, scoring in the 55th minute after another set up by Gomez Galeano. A long kick from Engjell Qamili (London, ON) on a free kick snuck by the St. Lawrence defense and keeper to extend Fanshawe's lead to 4-0 in the 64th minute. The Surge would attempt to come back, scoring a goal of their own, but Ibrahiem Arab (Ottawa, ON) had a beautiful strike to the top left corner for the Falcons to put the game away. Sneddon was named the player of the game for Fanshawe.

The Falcons will now face the host, and top ranked team in the country, the Humber Hawks (12-0, 1st West) in an OCAA Semi-Final match on Friday, October 28 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ontario Soccer Centre. All provincial tournament information and live stream can be found at www.ocaa.com/msoc .
