Fanshawe Men’s Soccer Team Advances to OCAA Championship

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's squad (8-2-1, 3rd West) defeated the Fleming Knights (3-7-1, 6th East) at home on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0 in an OCAA qualifying playoff match.

 

Fanshawe fifth-year forward Michael Sneddon (Mount Brydges, ON) scored first for the home team, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 24th minute. The Falcons continued to pressure the Knights, but Fleming goalkeeper Logan Scott came up with some huge saves to keep the game within reach. In the 79th minute, a shot from Kyle Cameron (St. Catharines, ON) found the back of the net to give Fanshawe a 2-0 lead, which would stand as the final. Fanshawe had 21 shots in the match to Fleming's three.

 

With the victory, the Falcons now advance to the OCAA Championship, hosted by Humber College from Oct. 26-29. Fanshawe will face the St. Lawrence Surge (8-2-1, 2nd East) in their quarterfinal match at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26.

 

The Falcons Women's team (2-5-4, 6th West) traveled to Algonquin (8-2-1, 2nd East) for their playoff match and fell by a close score of 2-1 to end their 2022 campaign.
