Sneddon Sets Fanshawe Record as Falcons Clinch West Division Title

(London, Ontario) – The No. 10 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's Soccer squad (5-0-1, 1st in West) concluded OCAA regular season play with a win over the St. Clair Saints (4-2-0, 2nd in West) by a score of 5-0 on Tuesday evening. The Falcons have now clinched the top spot in the OCAA West Division and extended their regular season unbeaten streak to 11 games.

The Falcons came out flying with a goal early in the match when Ryan Baker (Strathroy, ON) had a beautiful left-footed cross to teammate Mike Sneddon (Mount Brydges, ON). Sneddon made no mistake, capitalizing and scoring in the 5th minute. With the goal, Sneddon became the Fanshawe Men's Soccer all-time career scoring leader, passing the previous record of 27 set by Cedric N'Guessan (2011-2016) and Greg Remijn (2005-2008). Ten minutes later, Baker found Sneddon again for an incredible one-time strike into the corner of the St. Clair net to make the score 2-0. Sneddon scored his third goal of the game and 30th of his career in the 29th minute. Baker assisted once again to finish as the OCAA leader in total assists, with seven.

The Saints had a couple of chances in the second half, however could not recover from the early deficit. Jalen Loague (London, ON) put the game away on a free kick goal to increase the advantage to 4-0. The Falcons would add a final tally on a rocket of a shot by local midfielder Justin Wood (London, ON). Fanshawe had 11 shots in the game to St. Clair's six, and the Birds held a 9-2 shots on goal advantage. Because of strong team defending and goaltending, the Falcons completed their regular season without allowing any goals against.

With the win, Fanshawe will receive a first round playoff bye. They will host the winner of George Brown (2-4, 3rd in the Central) and St. Lawrence (4-2, 2nd in the East) in an OCAA quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, October 23.
