Fanshawe Falcons Men’s Soccer Honoured with OCAA League Awards

(London, Ontario) – Five Fanshawe Men's Soccer players were honoured for their accomplishments this season as the OCAA handed out their 2018 league awards. The Falcons were also awarded OCAA West Division Regular Season Champions and Best Defensive Team.

 

Ben VyfschaftOCAA Rookie of the Year and West Division Scoring Champion: 

In his first year with the Falcons, Ben Vyfschaft (London, ON) had an impressive year at striker. He led the OCAA West Division in average goals per game (1.5), accumulating a total of 12 goals. He was named an OCAA Star of the Week for his four-goal performance on October 13 against Redeemer, tying the Fanshawe Men's Soccer record for most goals in a single match.

 

Bradley HeathOCAA West Defensive Player of the Year and League All-Star: 

Bradley Heath (Markham, ON) was a key piece of the Falcons success this season, only allowing opponents to an average 5.1 shots on goal per game. The third-year centreback managed a strong back line that led Fanshawe to a league-low seven goals against in ten matches.   

 

Mike SneddonOCAA League All-Star:  

Netting 13 goals this season, Mike Sneddon (Mount Brydges, ON) led the Falcons to yet another undefeated regular season. Sneddon topped the West Division in goals scored and was tied for second in the league. He was named the Fanshawe Male Athlete of the Month after scoring four goals on September 29 at Lambton, tying the Fanshawe Men's Soccer record for most goals in a game.

 

Ahmad Al RajieOCAA League All-Star: 

London native Ahmad Al Rajie rounds out the Falcons trio of talented strikers. He scored five goals this season, good for sixth place in OCAA West Division scoring.

 

Alexander JakmaOCAA League All-Star:           

Goalkeeper Alexander Jakma (Richmond Hill, ON) had a goals against average of 0.73, good for second place in the OCAA.

 

The #6 nationally ranked Falcons Men's Soccer squad (9-0-1, 1st in West) will face the UTM Eagles (2-6-2, 4th in Central) in an OCAA quarterfinal match on Thursday, October 25 at 12pm. The Championship will be hosted by George Brown College in Toronto.
