Falcons Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Lambton in Season Opener

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Soccer team (1-0-0) shut out the Lambton Lions (0-1-0) by a final score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Falcons came out strong to start the match, maintaining the majority of the possession and getting five corner kick opportunities. Fanshawe opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when striker Ahmad Al Rajie (London, ON) found the back of the net. Shortly after, Ayden Newton-birani (London, ON) added the Falcons second goal to put the home team up 2-0 at the half. Fanshawe goalkeeper Alex Jakma (Richmond Hill, ON) had two saves in the first 45 minutes.

 

The Falcons continued to pressure the Lions in the second frame and went up 3-0 on a goal from rookie striker Ben Vyfschaft (London, ON) in the 76th minute. Fanshawe rookie goalkeeper Ryan Miners (London, ON) played the second half, garnering 3 saves as Fanshawe would hold on to open their season with a win. Fanshawe outshot Lambton 35-5 in the match.

 

Next up, Fanshawe will be on the road for their next three matches, starting on Tuesday, September 11, when they will face the St. Clair Saints (0-0-0) in Windsor.
