The Falcons Men’s Basketball Winning Streak Comes to an End

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (10-7) was defeated by the Humber Hawks (12-5) 87-75 in the Nest.

Jack Tunstill (St. Thomas, ON) opened the scoring for the Falcons with a downhill drive over the Humber defenders, but the visitors got off to a quick start. To bring Fanshawe's score to seven versus Humber's 10, Josh Loblaw (Toronto, ON) made an excellent spin move in the key to finish for two. Both teams played at a fast pace, exchanging baskets. Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) knocked down a three from the top of the arc. Then, Jalen Deerr (Pickering, ON) assisted Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, ON) on a pick-and-roll action to give Fanshawe a 23-21 lead at the end of the first.

A great attack from Deerr gave Fanshawe a quick two to start the second quarter. To put the Falcons up 27 to Humber's 25, Loblaw converted on an up-and-under reverse. Tunstill had seven points in the game after recording an and-one. Mickey Griffiths (Oakville, ON) grabbed an offensive rebound and went back up for two to put Fanshawe up by five points. Unfortunately, the Hawks went on an eight-point run to take back the advantage. The Hawks led 48-40 after two quarters.

During the first possession of the third, Williams knocked down a three. Trailing by 10, Reuben Hasebenebi (London, ON) swished a triple, but Humber continued to extend their lead. Later, Griffiths found Deerr down low for two which added to Fanshawe's 8-2 run to close out the quarter. The Falcons were down 72-58 after three.

Hasebenebi made a great assist to Deerr who slipped by his defender on a backdoor cut to start the fourth. Despite Fanshawe's efforts, the visitors pulled away and won by a score of 87-75. Fanshawe's Williams and Deerr both finished with a team-high of 14 points.

Fanshawe looks to bounce back in their final regular season game on January 10 against the No. 14 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers (11-5) on the road.
