The Falcons are Victorious

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (8-6) beat the Sheridan Bruins (7-6) by a score of 100-75 at home on Wednesday evening.

Guard Josh Loblaw (Toronto, ON) was first on the board for the Falcons after swishing a sweet jumper from the middle of the key. Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, ON) followed with a made bucket, and then Jalen Deerr (Pickering, ON) converted on a euro-step layup that had the crowd in awe to give the Birds a quick 6-2 lead. The Bruins then took back the advantage. Fifth-year Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) responded to the Bruins push, scoring two baskets in consecutive possessions, contributing to a Falcons 9-0 run. Deerr was also on fire, hitting his second triple of the game and recording 10 points in the quarter. The Birds led 24-17 after the first.

The Falcons continued their dominant play early in the second, starting with back-to-back Loblaw threes. To give the Birds a 32-17 advantage, Mickey Griffiths (Oakville, ON) slammed a dunk to get the home crowd roaring. Second-year guard, Jack Tunstill (St. Thomas, ON) recorded a bucket plus the harm while fighting through Sheridan's contact. To give the Falcons a 23-point lead, Azad Chahal (London, ON) and Reuben Hasebenebi (London, ON) knocked down triples in consecutive plays. The Bruins strung a few buckets together to end the half. The Falcons led 48-34 over the visitors to enter the third.

The Bruins had a lightning start in the second half and cut Fanshawe's advantage down to eight. The Birds then regrouped, and Tunstill led the way, scoring five quick points. To put the Falcons up 67-50 over the Bruins, Chahal hit two threes. Griffiths showed off great strength while finishing through the contact down low. The two teams battled evenly in the third, scoring 22 points. The Falcons held on to their 14-point advantage heading into the fourth by a score of 70-56.

Loblaw hit a runner in the middle of the key within the first minute of the fourth. Deerr followed with a superstar up-and-under move over Sheridan's forward. Tunstill came up big on the glass for the Birds. After grabbing two offensive boards for the Falcons, he found Williams who swished a shot behind the arc. Gabe Hylton (Oakville, ON) assisted Caleb Labelle (Sharon, ON) for two, giving the Birds a comfortable 23-point lead. The Falcons took the game 100-75. Notable players from Fanshawe were Williams with an 11 and 11 double-double and Chahal shooting 4 for 9 from the three.
