The Falcons Fall to the No. 9 Nationally Ranked Mountaineers

(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday evening, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (4-4) was defeated by the No. 9 CCAA Mohawk Mountaineers (6-1) by a score of 98-81 at the Nest.

Josh Loblaw (Toronto, ON) began the game by scoring the first six points for the Birds. The Falcons later stole the ball from the Mountaineers in back-to-back possessions which led to a layup for Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, ON) and a Jack Tunstill (St. Thomas, ON) dunk to hype up the crowd. Multiple lead changes were made throughout the quarter, but the Falcons took control and were up 20-16 after the first.

And-ones were recorded by Loblaw and Tunstill to start the second. Putting the Birds up 34-24, Steven Okoroafor (Burlington, ON) made a great drive which resulted in a basket. Continuing their run, Whalen recorded a bucket plus the harm for the Falcons. Later, Luka Philavong (London, ON) knocked down a step-back triple which put Fanshawe up by 13 over the Mountaineers. Giving the Birds a 53-40 lead, Philavong made another shot behind the arc to close the half.

Philavong opened the second half with his third triple of the night. After controlling a majority of the game, Fanshawe got into foul trouble early in the third and Mohawk regained the advantage. Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) gathered an offensive rebound and went back up to score the final Falcons basket of the quarter. The Birds trailed 72-64 after the third.

Running the point, Williams spun in the key and hit a fade away over the Mohawk defender. Loblaw and Whalen swished back-to-back corner threes, but the Mountaineers maintained their lead and took the game 98-81. Tunstill stuffed the stat sheet recording 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.

Fanshawe looks to win their final game of the semester on December 1 on the road against the Humber Hawks (4-3).
