The Falcons Fall to the Saints

(London, ON) -On Friday evening, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (1-2) was defeated 96-49 by the St. Clair Saints (3-0) at the Glenn Johnston Athletics Centre.

To open the game, Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, ON) drove to the basket to finish the first bucket for the Birds. First-year Azad Chahal (London, ON) gained two points for the Falcons after finishing a diving layup at the rim. To tie the game at 10, Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) made a beautiful pass to Blake Roy (Springfield, ON). The score stood at 17-16 in the visitor's favour at the end of the first.

Subbing into the second, Caleb Labelle (Sharon, ON) knocked down a huge three to get the crowd on their feet. Down by seven with just under seven minutes left in the quarter, the Birds had many chances but were unable to convert. At the end of the quarter, Williams made a brilliant spin move to add two points to Fanshawe's score. Going into the half, the Falcons trailed by 22.

In the third, second-year Brendon Mudge (London, Ontario) finished a soaring layup and made a free throw later in the quarter. Unfortunately, the Saints continued to run away with the lead and the Birds were down 66-41 at the end of the quarter.

With little time remaining in the game, Labelle nailed a jumper ten feet from the net. The Falcons showed great hustle and determination until the end, but it was not enough to steal the victory.

The Birds have a short time to regroup as they face Canadore (0-2) at noon on Sunday, November 5th at home.
