Johnson Leads Fanshawe Men’s Basketball to Win over Canadore

Johnson

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday night, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (2-2) picked up an 88-75 win over the Canadore Panthers (0-4) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre.

Fourth-year Falcon D'Andre Austin got the home team rolling in the opening quarter, seeing the floor and finding Mason Middaugh (London, ON) under the basket for a layup. Local forward Alfred Johnson gave Fanshawe the lead on a smooth post move in the key. A nice pass from John Akende (Toronto, ON) found teammate Nathanael Morris-Mckenzie (Montreal, QC) for the bucket. A strong take to the basket from Canadore gave them the lead after quarter one 18-17.

Johnson continued to go to work in the second frame, scoring 21 points in the half. Back-to-back triples from Bruno Pande (London, ON), followed by a drive and dish from Judah Stewart (Brantford, ON) to Aldin Malkic gave the Birds the lead. The score going into the locker room was 43-37 in favour of the Falcons.

In the third quarter, Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) sparked the home crowd with a bucket plus the foul. The Panthers stayed within reach with a pair of triples. Rookie shooting guard Marko Maletic (London, ON) hit a shot from behind the arc to give the Falcons a 67-58 lead going into the final quarter.

Ujullu and Johnson stretched Fanshawe's lead in the fourth quarter with strong finishes in the paint. Despite Canadore's best efforts, the Falcons' would be too much for the Panthers to handle and take the 88-75 win. Johnson had a double-double in the victory with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Ujullu and Maletic added 18 and 10 points respectively.

Fanshawe will be back in action on Wednesday, November 6, when they will travel to Etobicoke to play the No. 10 nationally ranked Humber Hawks (0-3) at 8pm.
