Strong Second Half Leads Fanshawe to Victory Over St. Clair

(London, Ontario) – On Tuesday evening, the Falcons Men's Basketball team (4-1) defeated the St. Clair Saints (2-2) by a score of 79-54 at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre.

 

Fanshawe took the lead in the first frame, behind 12 points from Chris Parker (Toledo, OH). St. Clair then went on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter to tie the game 16-16. Carter Hawthornthwaite (London, ON) and Xavier Ellis (Hamilton, ON) then hit back-to-back shots from behind the arc for the Falcons. St. Clair responded with baskets of their own, including a last second dunk to conclude the half. At the break, the score was 34-33 in favour of the visiting Saints.

 

The third quarter opened with a floater from Parker followed by a layup from Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON). Good defense from Salim Bagabe (Kitchener, ON) forced St. Clair into a turnover that resulted in Fanshawe points. The Falcons went on a 10-0 run to end the third to make the score 59-44 for the home team. Fanshawe continued where they left off in the fourth quarter, extending their run to 20-0 and their lead to 68-44. Parker was strong offensively for the Falcons, hitting a step back jumper that excited the home crowd. Fanshawe's defense held St. Clair to just 20% shooting in the second half to propel the Falcons to a 79-54 victory. Parker finished the game with 40 points on 57% shooting and Ujullu added 16 points and 16 rebounds for the double-double.

 

The Falcons will be on the road for their next game Saturday, November 10 against the Redeemer Royals (2-2).
