Falcons Men’s Basketball Fall to Humber in Season Debut

(London, Ontario) – At the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Friday evening, the Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (0-1) fell to the Humber Hawks (1-0) in their OCAA regular season opener by a score of 96-70.

 

Fanshawe jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter with buckets from guards Chris Parker (Toledo, OH) and Xavier Ellis (Hamilton, ON). The Hawks responded with a shot from behind the arc and took a slim 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second frame, local forward Alfred Johnson had a smooth layup, followed by a block to help the home side regain the lead. However, pressure defense from Humber forced the Falcons into a pair of turnovers that resulted in Hawks points. The teams' continued to exchange points and Humber held a 40-36 lead going into the locker room.   

 

The Hawks came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons 32-13. In the fourth, Fanshawe had back-to-back layups from Zach Soltis (Cambridge, ON). The home team could not recover from the third quarter deficit, and lost by a final score of 96-70. Parker had a game-high 20 points, while Soltis led the team with 11 rebounds.

 

Next up, the Falcons will host the Lambton Lions (1-0) on Wednesday, October 24 at 8pm.
