Loss Against the Mountaineers Ends Fanshawe’s Softball Season

(London, ON) The Fanshawe Falcons Softball team (11-14, 4th) will not advance in the OCAA Softball Provincial tournament hosted by Humber College. The Birds fell 9-2 in their quarterfinal game against Mohawk (11-14, 5th) on Thursday evening.

The Birds held the Mountaineers scoreless during the first four innings. Fanshawe's Jada Doxtator (Southwold, ON) threw six strikeouts in the game. During the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons took the first lead of the game. Paige Askew (London, ON) secured a hit that ran in teammate Hannah Lawler (Cambridge, ON) to go up 1-0.

With multiple chances to score in the fifth and sixth innings, the Birds were unable to convert. On the other end, the Mountaineers picked up nine runs in the remaining innings. The Falcons began to dig themselves out of a hole in the bottom of the seventh when Marandee Hunter (Chatham, ON) hit a homer and Kailyn Cook (Ingersoll, ON) picked up a hit, but it was not enough for the Birds. Doxtator was named Fanshawe's player of the game.
