(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Softball squad (8-6) swept the Seneca Sting (0-12) on Sunday afternoon by scores of 8-1 and 6-1.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Falcons got on the board first. A leadoff single by Samantha Fuller (Ingersoll, ON), followed by a bunt by Kennedi Roth (Stratford, ON) put Fanshawe in scoring position. Jacey Lochert (Bellwood, ON) then hit a single to score Fuller to put the home team up 1-0 after the first inning. The Falcons added four more runs in the second inning with RBIs from Ali Bergman (Embro, ON), Lochert and two from Roth. Seneca scored their first and only run of the game in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Lochert and MacKenzie Kelly (Oil Springs, ON) had RBIs that extended the lead to 8-1 and the Falcons would go on to win game one. Fanshawe's Laura Chappel (Staffa, ON) (1-5) pitched a complete game, with nine strikeouts, for her first win of the season. Seneca's Chantel Gendron (0-7) was the losing pitcher.

Fanshawe continued to be strong at the plate in the second game of the doubleheader. In the opening inning, Fuller had another leadoff single then stole second. Roth followed that with a single and stolen base of her own. Lochert would then score Fuller on a hit to centerfield and Roth stole home to put the Falcons up 2-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Fanshawe rookie Danni Smith (Hagersville, ON) got to second base on a single and an error. Vanessa Samms (London, ON) then hit a double for the Falcons to score Smith. Fuller then scored Samms to make the score 4-0 for the home team. An RBI from Smith in the fifth inning scored Lochert, and then Chappel came home on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 6-0. Although Seneca scored a run in the sixth inning, it would not be enough, and the Falcons won 6-1. Andrea Webster (Wilsonville, ON) moved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Seneca's Chantel Gendron (0-8) took the loss. On the day, Lochert was 6 for 8 at the plate, with 4 RBIs and 2 runs.

Next up, the Falcons will travel to Kitchener to face the Conestoga Condors (4-8) on Wednesday, September 26 at 6pm and 8pm.
