Fanshawe Women’s Curling Captures OCAA Silver Medal

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Curling teams competed at the OCAA Provincial Championships in Sault Ste. Marie from February 7-10. The Fanshawe Falcons Women came home with some hardware, capturing the provincial silver medal.

 

The Women's team were in second place after round robin play, with a record of 2-2, including two strong wins over Mohawk 10-2 and 8-2. This set them up for the championship game against the number one ranked Humber Hawks, which despite their best efforts, the Falcons fell 7-3.

 

By capturing OCAA silver, the Fanshawe Women's team will advance to the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships taking place in Fredericton from March 12-16 hosted by Curling Canada. The Fanshawe team is comprised of lead Abigail Brown (Sudbury), second Nicole McClennan (Guelph), vice Kara Wrightson (St. George) and skip Veronica Van Broekhoven (Port Stanley). All members were named OCAA Second-Team Tournament All-Stars. The Women are coached by Barry Westman.  

 

The Fanshawe Men finished round robin play in fourth place with a record of 1-3, then unfortunately dropped their semi-final contest to the top ranked Humber Hawks. In the bronze medal game against host Sault College, the Falcons fell by a score of 12-1. The Men's team includes lead Nicholas Chasse (Metcalfe), second Jack Welbanks (Kingston), vice Anden Fennell, skip Eric Van Maanen (Ridgetown) and coach DJ Ronaldson.

 

Mixed doubles pair of Jamie Forrester (Scarborough) and Samuel Clements (Trenton) finished with a record of 1-5 and are coached by Shirley Westman.
