Fanshawe Women’s Curling Captures OCAA Bronze Medal

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Curling teams competed at the OCAA Provincial Championships in Welland hosted by Niagara College this past weekend. The Falcons Women came home with some hardware, capturing the provincial bronze medal.

 

The Women's team were in fourth place after round robin play, with a record of 1-3. This set them up for a semi-final match against the number one ranked Niagara Knights, which the Falcons fell 8-1. Fanshawe then faced Sault College in the bronze medal match, where they stepped up their game, winning by a final score of 8-2 to capture the provincial bronze medal.

 

The Fanshawe team is comprised of Veronica Van Broekhoven (Port Stanley), Leah Hopkins (Ingersoll), Hannah Schevers (Omemee), Nicole McClennan (Guelph), and Abigail Brown (Sudbury). The team is coached by Barry Westman.

 

The Fanshawe Men finished round robin play in fifth place with a record of 0-4 and did not advance to the medal rounds. Fanshawe's Kapish Kaushal (Delhi, India) was awarded the Ron Fearon Fair Play Award.

 

The Fanshawe Women's Curling team will advance to the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association/ Curling Canada College Championships taking place in Sudbury from March 15-19.
