Double Bronze for Fanshawe Curling at OCAA Provincial Championships

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's, Men's and Mixed Doubles Curling teams competed at the OCAA Provincial Championships in Peterborough hosted by Fleming College this past weekend. The Falcons Women and Men both came home with a bronze medal and qualified for the CCAA National Championships in March.

 

The Women's team finished 2-2 after round robin play, good for third place. This set them up for a semi-final match against the Sault Cougars, which the Falcons lost by a close score of 6-5. In the bronze medal match, Fanshawe defeated Confederation 6-4 to bring home the hardware. Lauren Massey (London, ON) was named an OCAA First Team All-Star, while teammate Erin White (Chatham, ON) earned a Second Team All-Star.

 

The Men also finished round robin play in third place with a record of 3-2. In the semi-final, Fanshawe dropped a 4-3 contest to the Mohawk Mountaineers before bouncing back to win the bronze medal game 8-2 over the Sault. Fanshawe had three OCAA Second Team All-Star recipients, including skip Charlie Richard (Woodstock, ON), lead Nicholas Robinson (Mount Brydges, ON) and second Owen Tester (Fort McMurray, AB).

 

Fanshawe also had two Mixed Doubles teams participate in the Championships. Both squads finished with a record of 2-5 to finish fifth and sixth overall.   

 

Fanshawe Coaches DJ Ronaldson (Men) and Chris Jay (Mixed Doubles) were named OCAA Curling Coaches of the Year.

 

The Falcons Women's and Men's teams will now advance to the CCAA National Curling Championships in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba from March 11-15.
