Fanshawe’s Chopping-Lawlor and Wheeler Named Second Team All-Stars

(London, Ontario) – The OCAA announced today the winners of the Men's Baseball league awards. Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge, ON) and Riley Wheeler (Shelburne, ON) were recognized as OCAA Men's Baseball Second Team All-Stars. Wheeler was also named to the OCAA Men's Baseball All-Rookie Team.

In his third season, Chopping-Lawlor set a new Fanshawe Men's Baseball record for the most career doubles, previously held by Faris Adamou (14). Smashing seven doubles this season, Chopping-Lawlor obtained 16 over during his time with the Falcons. He also managed 19 hits, 13 runs, 14 RBIs, and three home runs on a 0.352 batting average this season. Beyond his excellent play while at bat, Chopping-Lawlor has consistently made miraculous first-base catches and displayed tremendous leadership which has contributed to the Falcons' 8-2 record during their last ten games of the regular season.

Wheeler led Fanshawe in runs (20), hits (23), home runs (7), and RBIs (28) as a rookie this season. His incredible performance has surpassed Quinton Twohey's 2016-17 record (25) for the most RBIs recorded in a season by a Falcon. Seven of Wheeler's RBIs came from a double and two home run hits in game one of the doubleheader against the defending 2022-23 OCAA Men's Baseball Champions St. Clair Saints on October 7.

The Falcons finished the regular season in fourth place (9-9) and will travel to Aurora, Ontario for the 2023 OCAA Men's Baseball Championship hosted by Seneca College. On Thursday at Stewart Burnett Park, Fanshawe will face Centennial (9-9, 5th) at 11:00 a.m. The last time these two teams met, the Falcons swept the Colts 4-1 and 15-11.
