Falcons Win Two Straight Against the Sting

The Falcons Baseball team (5-7) won back-to-back games against Seneca (1-8) at Norm Aldridge Field on Sunday, September 24. The Birds won 2-0 in game one and 10-7 in game two to increase the team's win streak to five games.

The Falcons began the game with urgency. Pitcher Dusan Karic (Stoney Creek, ON) opened with two strikeouts and left the Sting off the board. A Riley Wheeler (Shelburne, ON) hit, a Marcus Normandin (Mississauga, ON) single, and an RBI hit by Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge, ON) gave the Birds their first run of the game. In the second inning, first year William Baltrusiunas added a run to Fanshawe's score, increasing the Bird's advantage by two.

At the top of the third, the Sting loaded the bases and Fanshawe's Karic threw his third strikeout of the game to take the Birds off the diamond. In the remaining innings, Fanshawe's excellent play would shutout the visitors. The Falcons took game one 2-0.

Things started differently in game two.  Seneca got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first. The Birds answered in the bottom of the inning with an impressive four hits. Hits by Trevor Loebach (St. Thomas, ON), Wheeler, Ashton Whalen (Paris, ON), and a double by Dylan Howard (London, ON) led to five runs for the Falcons.

Seneca added three runs in the fourth to tie the contest at 5-5. While at bat, Fanshawe's Chopping-Lawlor hammered his second homerun of the season to give the Birds three runs. On the other side, an additional two runs were awarded to the visitors during the top of the fifth. Going back and forth, catcher Dylan Howard hit an RBI for the Birds to score Whalen. After the fifth, the score stood at 9-7 for the Falcons.

A Carter Stratton (Guelph, ON) hit to centre field allowed first year Mason Sutton (Burlington, ON) to cross home plate. Stellar pitches by Caden Bond (Whitby, ON) went on to close out game two. 10-7 was the final in favour of the Falcons.

The Falcons hope to add two victories to their win streak while playing a doubleheader against the 3-9 Cougars on Saturday, September 30 at Sault Ste. Marie.
