Falcons Split Doubleheader Against the Bruins

The Fanshawe Falcons Baseball team picked up their first win of the season against the Sheridan Bruins on September 17. The Bruins won 5-4 in game one and the Falcons took control in game two, winning 10-0 at Aldridge Field.

The Bruins came out of the gate swinging in the first inning. A home run hit by the visitors contributed to their 4-0 start. The Falcons answered in the third with a hit from Luke Sherwin (Brampton, ON), Marcus Normandin (Mississauga, ON), William Baltrusiunas (Fonthill, ON), and Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge, ON). Riley Wheeler (Shelburne, ON) also smashed a double to tie the game up at 4-4.

Great pitching by Fanshawe's Colin Mandarich (Ajax, ON) kept the Bruins scoreless in four consecutive innings. Mandarich recorded six strikeouts in the game. In the seventh inning, Sheridan scored a run to take game one 5-4.

In game two, it was all Fanshawe. Wheeler and Chopping-Lawlor slammed home runs to put the Birds up 9-0 after the third. Ashton Whalen (Paris, ON) and Logan Peddell (London, ON) also struck RBI's, assisting in the dominating effort. A wild pitch thrown by the Bruins secured Fanshawe's 10-0 victory. The Birds brilliant performance sent the visitors home early.

The Falcons look to keep adding to the win column during their next doubleheader against the Centennial Colts. The Birds will play on the road on Saturday at Neilson Park in Scarbrough, ON.
