Fanshawe Baseball Defeats Lambton in Final Home Game of the Season

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Baseball team (6-7) had their final home game of the 2019 season at Labatt Park on Wednesday evening. The Falcons defeated the Lambton Lions (0-8) by a score of 5-0 to notch their fifth straight win.

 

Both teams struggled at the plate in the opening three innings. In the bottom of the fourth frame, Braden Halford (Port Hope, ON) and Judd Walker (Mitchell, ON) were hit by a pitch and advanced on double stolen bases. The Lions then intentionally walked Josh Arce (Oshawa, ON). With the bases loaded, Fanshawe scored on a walk. Jake Julian (Niagara Falls, ON) then hit a single to left field to score Walker and Arce and give the home team a 3-0 lead. Bradley Verhoeven (St. Thomas, ON) and Brodey Hlushko (Guelph, ON) each added an RBI single in the fifth and sixth innings respectively to make the final score 5-0 for Fanshawe.

 

As a team, the Falcons had six stolen bases. Hlushko went 2 for 2 at the plate, with 1 RBI and 1 run. Joe Blakely (Belleville, ON) moved to 2-2 on the season with an impressive evening on the mound. Blakely recorded ten strikeouts for the Falcons. Jake Taylor (0-2) was the losing pitcher for Lambton.

 

The Falcons will conclude their regular season with five road games starting on Saturday, October 5 at Humber (11-2).
