Fanshawe Badminton Advances to OCAA Provincial Championships

At the OCAA West Regional Badminton tournament last weekend in Sudbury, the Falcons had numerous athletes qualify for the OCAA provincial championship. The top three singles players and doubles teams from each discipline at the two regionals advance to provincials. The West Regional was hosted by Cambrian College.

Arpitraj Sinha (Markham, ON) went undefeated in Men's Singles, with a record of 6-0, and teammate Michael Gao (China) also qualified for provincials with a record of 4-2. Sinha was a silver medalist in men's doubles competition at the OCAA championships last season, going on to win a bronze medal at nationals. In Women's Singles, Zoya Virk (India) captured third place with a record of 4-2 to advance. The duo of Morgan Grant (Thamesville, ON) and Mook Prasarn (Thailand) went 2-1 in the Women's Doubles event, good for second place. Finally, the Mixed Doubles pair of Aniket Ramrupwad (London, ON) and Kendra McCoy (Bancroft, ON) will also advance with a second place finish.

The OCAA championships is a round robin format within each discipline, with the top four advancing to semi-finals, leading into bronze and gold medal matches. The event is being hosted by Seneca College from Feb. 17-18 at the KC Badminton Club in Aurora.
