Wade Named an OCAA Star of the Week

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 13:

 

Melanie Wade
School: Fanshawe
Program: Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Badminton
Hometown: Calgary, Alta.
Wade had a great showing at the Centennial Invitational from Jan. 11-13, finishing in second place in the women's singles competition. The first-year student dominated in all her matches, never dropping a set, before falling to reigning OCAA women's singles champion Ann Hoang of George Brown 21-7, 21-15 in the final. Wade's average set scores in her four victories was 21-12. Wade will now set her sights on securing a berth to provincials at the upcoming OCAA badminton regional tournaments taking place Feb. 1-2 at George Brown and Conestoga.
