Intramural Ice Hockey Referee Job Description

 

Overview:  Fanshawe College, under a partnership agreement with the Fanshawe College Student Union, competes in selected intercollegiate sports within the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (O.C.A.A.) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (C.C.A.A.).  Under the same agreement the college operates an extensive intramural athletics program involving over 5000 student athletes. Fanshawe operates a 32 team Men's Intramural No-Body-Contact League and a 4 team Women's Intramural No-Body Contact League at Stronach Arena four nights a week from Monday to Thursday from 10PM to 1AM, October through to April.

 

Duties:  Under the general supervision of the Athletics and Sponsorship Officer, the referee ensures that hockey games are conducted within the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) rules and regulations, as well as, Fanshawe amended rules and regulations applicable to the hockey and that the highest standards of fair competition are maintained in accordance with Intramural Rules and Regulations. Referees must wear proper referee uniforms and protective equipment (helmet and eye protection). The referee will report any breech of the Fanshawe College Student Code of Conduct occurring before, during or following games to the Intramural Officer.

 

Qualifications:  Must be registered with a minimum of Level 3 referee certificate or higher to officiate the Fanshawe Intramural League. It is recommended to have First Aid and/or CPR. Willingness to work with fellow students and staff.  Good interpersonal communication skills.   Referees must be reliable and punctual for late evening assignments.  The applicant must be a full time registered student at Fanshawe College.

 

Remuneration:  An hourly rate of $26.00 plus 6%.  This is a part time position for both fall and winter terms.
