(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics announced this evening that Sebastian Lethbridge (Men's Volleyball) and Katie Rice (Women's Cross Country) have been named Fanshawe's Athletes of the Year.
Athlete of the Year: Sebastian Lethbridge – Lethbridge is the most decorated player in Fanshawe Men's Volleyball history. As a fifth-year captain, he has led the Falcons to three OCAA gold medals, an OCAA silver and an OCAA bronze. He is the first Falcon in volleyball history to be named the CCAA Championship MVP (2019) and to have received the CCAA Exemplary Leadership Award. Lethbridge has won the national trifecta; a CCAA gold, a CCAA silver and a CCAA bronze. This year, in his fifth and final season, Lethbridge was honoured by being named the CCAA Men's Volleyball National Player of the Year, a CCAA All-Canadian and a CCAA Championship Tournament First Team All-Star. The local setter was also named the OCAA Men's Volleyball Player of the Year, an OCAA League First Team All-Star, and an OCAA Championship Tournament All-Star. His leadership, high volleyball IQ and commitment to the Fanshawe volleyball program has been instrumental the success of the Falcons.
Athlete of the Year: Katie Rice – Rice led the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Cross Country team this season, capturing both an individual and team OCAA provincial gold medal. At the OCAA championships in Thunder Bay, at one of the most difficult race courses, Rice finished 38 seconds ahead of her competitor to claim the title. Though she has only been running cross country for two years, her hard work and dedication has helped her excel athletically at the provincial level. Rice was named an OCAA and CCAA Athlete of the Week and to the OCAA All-Ontario First Team for her accomplishments this season.
