OCAA Announces Softball and Baseball League Award Winners

(London, Ontario) – Two Fanshawe Falcons Softball players and two Baseball players were honoured for their accomplishments this season as the OCAA handed out their 2018 Softball and Baseball league awards. 

 

Nichole ErbOCAA Softball Rookie of the Year: 

Fanshawe pitcher Nichole Erb (Monkton, ON), had an impressive rookie season with the Falcons. She posted a 7-1 record on the mound and also set a new Fanshawe Softball record for most strikeouts in a season with 58. Erb led the OCAA in strikeouts per game with 6.88 and was fifth in the OCAA with a 2.73 ERA.

 

Jacey LochertOCAA Softball League All-Star: 

Jacey Lochert (Bellwood, ON) was one of the most valuable Falcons in the 2018 season. The fourth-year shortstop was the team leader defensively, while posting a stellar .410 batting average. Lochert had 34 hits on the season, scoring 19 runs and a team-high 25 RBIs.

 

Ty ArmstrongOCAA Baseball Rookie of the Year: 

In his first season with Fanshawe, Ty Armstrong (Thorndale, ON) led the Falcons at the plate with a .347 batting average and a team-high 17 hits, including 3 doubles. Armstrong recorded 8 RBIs and 10 runs while playing both second and third base for Fanshawe.

 

Kale BilgerOCAA Baseball League All-Star: 

London native Kale Bilger was Fanshawe's ace this season, with an ERA of 2.30. Bilger set two Fanshawe Baseball records including most strikeouts in a season (34) and most strikeouts in a single game, when he notched 12 in the Falcons 2-0 win over St. Clair on October 5, 2018.

 

Both teams will participate in the OCAA Championships beginning on Friday, October 19 at 11am. The Women's Softball squad will face the St. Clair Saints in Kitchener, while the Men's Baseball team will take on the Humber Hawks in Oshawa.
