(London, Ontario) – A team of Fanshawe College staff and students helped United Way GenNext provide for local kids in need as part of LUSO Community Services' "Books and Breakfast" program. For two hours this morning, the Fanshawe team served a free 'pop-up' breakfast to elementary school children who live in financial need.

"We fed smoothies and parfaits to 43 children on their first day of summer vacation," explained Athletic Officer Jackie Corby, who helped coordinate Fanshawe's involvement in the event.

United Way partners with community agencies like LUSO (London Urban Services Organization) to organize pop-up breakfast events all over London, helping the children to get a healthy start to their day. LUSO is a United Way sponsored agency that promotes well-being and inclusiveness of ethnic, racial, religious and cultural diversity. With the Help of United Way, LUSO provides social and educational support to help people in need improve their life skills, integrate into their communities and overcome barriers to successful living.

The Fanshawe 'pop-up' breakfast team included John Berthelot (Falcons Cross Country athlete recruit), Danielle Grasman (Falcons Women's Volleyball athlete recruit), Laura Visconti (Advancement & Alumni), Colton Tribble (Student Academic Success), Kaitlyn Murray (Athletic Assistant), Mikhaila Wright (Falcons Women's Basketball athlete), Katherine Ricica (Wellness Centre).
